ALBRECHT: Deborah Ann (Caven) of London

Albrecht, Main #4 W300

July 24, 1951 – February 23, 2026

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Deborah Ann Albrecht (nee Caven). Deborah died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family after a courageous and determined fight against Acute Leukemia, during which she never lost her positive attitude or her sense of humour.

As the only daughter among four brothers of Dr. William (Bill) and Ruth Caven of Ottawa, she was used to standing up for herself and never hesitated to state her opinion.

Deborah graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts, then worked in art galleries and retail. During this time, she met her husband Tom and their connection was instant, leading to 51 years of love and family. Together, they had three children who were the centre of Deborah’s life. She delighted in being a Mum, and everyone saw her warm and caring nature; there was always time for trips to the library, colouring, cooking, and adventures in the park. Everyone was always welcome at their house and as a result, there is a whole generation of kids who have warm and fond memories of time spent with Deborah. She was also a true Leo who loved an audience, and seldom let the facts get in the way of a good story.

She was a voracious reader and never met a British murder mystery she didn’t like. She loved spending time with the family dogs as well as her daily bouts with Wordle, crosswords, and other puzzles. Later in life Deborah and Tom travelled and cruised extensively, creating beautiful memories together.

She leaves Tom her loving husband and best friend, and cherished children Jessica (Jeremy), Kate (Ian), and Michael (Cherise).

She will be deeply missed and will live forever in our hearts.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.

We wish to thank Dr. Jenny Ho and all the lovely staff and nurses at the Verspeeten Cancer Centre for their professional and compassionate care during this journey. Deborah enjoyed meeting everyone there, particularly Timmy the therapy dog. The family would also like to thank Paula at Ontario Health at Home, and the Palliative Care Doctors Hamilton and Stack who cared for Deborah in her final days.

Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Deborah are asked to consider the Canadian Cancer Society or your favourite animal shelter.

    Tom and family,
I was shocked to see the news about Deborah. Although we haven’t been in touch for years I have strong and very fond memories of the years when we very close friends. Through high school and university and the honour of being a bridesmaid at your wedding.
My deepest sympathies to all the family.

Jess and family, I’m very sorry to hear of Deb’s passing. I was lucky enough to have worked with Deb, where we shared many laughs together. I’m thinking of you all during this difficult time.

Debbie and I first met in 1968, while sharing a room in Ottawa’s Civic Hospital, both having had our tonsils out. That serendipitous meeting not only began a personal friendship between the two of us, but was the starting point of an extended and lasting friendship between both of our families! In the years that followed the Cavens and Browns shared many memorable get togethers (fun and laughter being a key component), as well as marking together a number of life’s happy and sad occasions along the way.
Although the years have broken that connection Hugh and I were saddened to learn, from Bruce today, of Debbie’s recent death. We both wish to extend sincere condolences to you Tom, and to your family. We hope your wonderful, happy memories of the fun loving Debbie we knew and loved will sustain you all. With sincere sympathy, Allie and Hugh Reid.
