Patti passed away unexpectedly at LHSC – University Hospital on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at the age of 71. Proud mom of Dan and Meagen Ciufo, Peter Ciufo, and Robert Ciufo and Esther Toth. Adored grandma of Jack, Claire, and Norah. Cherished daughter of Nancy (Foxworthy) and the late Arthur Read. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Susan Baker (the late Ted), Tom Read (Suzanne), Chris Read (Lorraine), Mary Adams (Craig), and the late Nancy Rodgers (Pat). Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
It didn’t matter where Patti was, or what she was doing, she was always giving and caring. An avid gardener, she tended to not only her own gardens, but public spaces and gardens too. She proudly shared that she has planted well over 14 thousand trees in her communities. In her many years as a nurse, she cared for so many others throughout career. She was often referred to as “The Garden Nurse” or the “Gardening Angel”. She took every opportunity to give back to her community, care for everyone and take on other people’s kids as her own. She will be remembered by her quick wit, sense of humour and of course, her memorable laugh.
A celebration of Patti’s life will be held at a later date.
In memory of Patti, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or in true Patti fashion, plant a tree or tend to a garden.
Dear Nancy, I was saddened to read of Patti’s passing in yesterday’s newspaper.
This is so difficult to write as we have not been in touch for so long. However, I do want to acknowledge this sad occasion. May she rest in peace and may you have solace in the knowledge that she was well loved and enjoyed life.
