JACKSON: Nick

FB IMG 1696983095660~2 Copy W300

Nick Jackson, just weeks shy of his 74th birthday, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. He had a heart full of joy and wit that never quit, Nick leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable moments.

A devoted father to Jennifer (Paul) and David (Marife), and a proud Grandpa Nick to his beloved grandchildren—Benjamin (Benny), Makenna (Moo Moo), and Nicole—Nick’s family was the centre of his world. He shared a lifetime bond with his brother Mike (Candice), a bond that could never be broken, and it was a constant source of strength and love throughout his life. He was a good friend to Mary, whom he cherished, and who always stood by his side through the years.

Nick’s family was not limited to those by blood, but extended to his cherished friends, both old and new, who loved him for exactly who he was. Whether they met him later in life or had known him for years, they accepted him with open arms, his jokes, and all. His humor, wit, and lighthearted spirit made him a friend to everyone he met.

Nick had a unique way of keeping those around him laughing. His favorite answer to the question, “How are you feeling?” was, “Mostly with my hands.” He was a joker through and through, and his laugh was contagious. But beyond the jokes, Nick was a man with a heart full of love and compassion. He lived by the motto, “I am what I am, and that’s all I can be.” And we loved him for it.

Nick’s love for animals was legendary—some days, he might have loved them more than people—but his unconditional love for his family was unmatched. He showed up for them in ways big and small, always with a smile (and a joke), and always with a kind word or gesture.

Though he wasn’t always pleased with the circumstances that brought him to Glendale, special thanks go to the amazing staff at Glendale Crossing, who cared for him in his final years. Nick often expressed his deep appreciation and love for them, and it brought him comfort knowing he was surrounded by such compassionate and dedicated people. He knew they always had his back, and some days he made sure to show them that he had theirs as well.

On the day Nick passed, he said his final goodbyes and I love yous to those gathered around him. He left this world knowing how deeply he was loved by all who knew him. His presence will be missed, but his laughter, his love, and his unforgettable personality will remain in our hearts forever.

There will be a celebration of life in the future. For now, the family asks that you honour Nick’s life by enjoying a cold beer in his memory, and, if you wish, making a donation to S.A.M.Y.’s Alpaca Farm or a local animal shelter—something Nick would have appreciated.
