SMITH: Brian of Grand Bend

smith, Brian MAIN W300

Unexpectedly, what started out as a routine hospital visit turned into a final goodbye at South Huron Hospital, Exeter on Sunday, January 21, 2024 of Grand Bend at the age of 82. Loving husband of Sherrie (Hannon) Smith for over 61years!

Lovingly Adored Father of Susan and Paul Pittao of Grand Bend, ON, Darrin Smith and Michele Popkey of London, ON, and Michael Smith of Bangor, Maine. The Best Papa a family could ask for, Papa to Amanda, Shaun, and Christian Pittao, Halle and Nick Smith. Dear brother of Terry and Jackie Smith, Dan and Karen Smith, and brother-in-law the late Frank and Cathy Hannon, Ron and Christine Hannon, Carol and Terry Marushak, Steve and Rosemary Hannon, Albert Hannon and David Vaughan and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Kathleen Smith, mother-in-law, Mary Ann (Hannon) Holland and Dennis Holland, father-in-law, Albert Hannon, and brother-in-law Frank Hannon.

Brian’s whole world was his family.  Spending time with his wife Sherrie anywhere that his grandkids were was his favourite thing to do. When he wasn’t with his kids or grandkids, he was asking about them. Weekend getaways with his wife was a new semi-retirement pastime that was cut way too short. Summers spent with all of his family in Ipperwash was a highlight and tradition of not only Brian’s but the entire families. He was hard not to like, a very private and proud man that loved those that he held dear more than life. He had a dry sense of humor that when came out, could put a smile on the face of everyone in the room.

The saying, “There are no words” has never rung truer! Heartbroken isn’t a strong enough word to describe how his family is feeling at the loss of their Soulmate/Dad/Papa.

Cremation has taken place. A private celebration of Brian’s life will be held at a later date. Cremation & Celebrations, Grand Bend entrusted with arrangements.

Donations to the South Huron Hospital Foundation and/or Humane Society London & Middlesex (Brian was an animal whisperer) would be appreciated by the family.

It is difficult to fully express our sympathies to all of you. Your family and ours are so closely connected it is often difficult to see where one ends and the other begins. When we even say Brian’s name it puts a smile on our faces. He was funny, quick witted, and kind. Some our best memories include both Brian, Sherrie, and the kids. From Ipperwash thunderstorms to New Years Day dinners, and family gatherings, he was always the jokester making everyone laugh. Brain was truly loved and will be missed by us all.
