WHITTEN: Joyce (Johnston) of Goderich

Whitten Joyce W300

Peacefully at Huronview Home for the Aged on Monday, January 24th, 2022, Joyce Whitten of Goderich in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of John “Scottie” Whitten (2003). Dear mother of John Whitten (2017) and Ruth Million (2016), and loving mother-in-law to Janet Whitten and Dave Million. Dear grandmother of Scott (Andrea), Wendy (Jay), Stacey (Chris), and Richard (Lucie), and great-grandmother to Noah, Maya, Cole, Jennifer, Hannah, and Autumn. Beloved sister of Douglas (1995), Marie, Reta, Janet, Dennis, and Kate (2016). Predeceased by her mother, Nellie Morris (1931); stepmother, Mary Foley (1990), and her father, Edward Johnston (1976). Joyce was a proud member of the Sheaffer Pen Retirement Club, a long-time volunteer with the Mackay Centre, a fantastic cook, a creative spirit whose passions were enjoyed by many, an avid walker, a dog-lover, and someone whose quick wit and brilliant smile lit up any room she was in. She was deeply loved by those who knew her, and she will be missed by many.

Cremation has already taken place, and a celebration of life will occur in the spring or early summer. Cremation & Celebrations, ARVA (519-963-4003) entrusted with arrangements.

Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society (Breast Cancer Research), Royal Canadian Legion Branch 109 (Goderich), or the MacKay Centre for Seniors would be appreciated by the family.

To Dave and family and the Whittens’ and Johnstons’. My deepest sympathy on your loss. As everyone else says Joyce was a wonderful lady and I clearly recall her looking after me many.a day when I was younger – plus haircuts and home perms, lunches of grilled cheese and tomato soup and learning Chubby Checker and to do the twist. Her daughter Ruth was my best friend all through public school. Great memories.

Such a beautiful lady. Joyce was a friend and neighbor of both the Fritzley and Gardner family. She worked in our little grocery and was a mother to my youngest sister Janet. I will never forget the Tony Home perms she gave me at her kitchen table. She was so talented in many ways. We will always remember her with kindness.
    Rest In Peace dear friend.
