WRIGHT: Richard Clark of London formerly of Hamilton

1000001676 W300

Richard Clark Wright, born November 12, 1948, passed away on June 12, 2024, after a long battle with COPD and a brief respiratory illness. Born in Hamilton, Richard spent most of his life in London.
Richard worked in the cleaning industry and owned his own company but later decided to follow his passion for cooking. He earned his culinary degree at Fanshawe College and worked in food services at Fanshawe Golf Course and other locations, including Parkwood Hospital. When he began to suffer vision loss, he transitioned from the kitchen to become a porter at Parkwood.
In addition to his impressive culinary skills, Richard was a talented handyman. He took great pride in teaching his son a wide range of practical skills, and they often enjoyed working on various projects together. An avid lover of history, art, and music, Richard found joy in exploring the past and researching a variety of topics.
Richard bravely battled and overcame alcoholism, embracing sobriety for over 15 years. He also helped other AA members with their own journeys. His commitment to recovery was a testament to his strength and determination, and his family was very proud of him. He was also an active supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, dedicating his time as a volunteer at numerous Pride events.
Richard was pre-deceased by his parents, Richard and Agnes, his half-sister, Irene, and her husband, Jim. Richard is survived and missed by his son, Matt, and daughter-in-law, Suzanne; his sister, Eleanor, and her husband, Glenn; his half-brother, Bob (late wife Helen); his former wife, Margy; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
The family would especially like to thank all the staff at Craigwiel Gardens LTC for their excellent care of Richard, they made his final journey much easier and more comfortable.
Cremation has taken place, and a private interment will occur later in Hamilton. If desired, any donations on Richard’s behalf can be made to PFLAG London.

Uncle Richard was always so kind to me and I have fond memories from childhood. I remember his laughter so well. Joe always got along with him too and we were sad to hear of his passing. Thinking of you Matt and the whole family, hoping that your own fond memories stay with you always. Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Richard,

    Cousin Erica (and Joe).
