It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Butler, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, and friend, who left us on August 20,2024. Dorothy was born on November 20, 1960 in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador and lived a rich life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to her family.
As a loving wife to Terry Butler, Dorothy was the heart of her family. They shared countless memories throughout their 42 years together, built on a foundation of support and love. Dorothy was the proud mother of Amanda (Jason Nedilski) and Loretta (Jason Hunwicks). She nurtured each of her daughters with warmth and guidance, instilling strength and kindness that shaped them into the remarkable women they are today. Dorothy found immense joy in being a grandmother to Alyssa, Braden, Gwenny, and Jackson. Her role as ‘Nanny’ brought her unparalleled happiness, and her gentle spirit and playful nature will always be cherished by her grandchildren. She leaves behind her brothers and sisters, Donna (Mario Biafore), Lorne Carson (Maria Cabral), Wayne (Claire Carson), George (Tracey Carson), Crystal (Lee). Dorothy had a special place in her heart for all her nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was known for sharing her stories, laughter, and countless cookies. Treasures that will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew her. Family was Dorothy’s greatest pride, and her loss leaves a void that can never be filled. Friends and family will remember her for her kindness, unwavering support, her love for animals and the lessons she imparted. She had an extraordinary ability to connect with those around her, always offering a listening ear and words of wisdom. She had many close friends who she loved and considered them family.
In honouring her legacy, we encourage everyone to take a moment to celebrate Dorothy’s life by embracing the ones you love a little tighter and spreading warmth and kindness as she did every day.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to celebrate Dorothy’s incredible life. Dorothy may have departed from this earth, but her spirit will live on in the love of her family, friends, and the countless lives she influenced. She will be deeply missed but remembered with fondness and love.
In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate donations to go towards Canadian Cancer Society and designate to Esophageal Cancer.
