SINDREY: Donald “Don” Edward of London formerly of Lindsay

Sindrey, Douglas Main W300

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side at PeopleCare Oakcrossing Long Term Care, London on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at the age of 89.

How do you sum up a life in a few paragraphs?

Don enjoyed sports, dancing, bridge, and was competitive in everything from cribbage to golf. He was very funny, even when he didn’t mean to be. Don was married to his wife Susan (Wheeler) for almost 66 years, filled with the work he loved as a chartered accountant, travelling, and Friday night drinks with Susan to catch up on the week. After retirement he would joke that every day was now Friday. Don grew up in Toronto and attended high school at Vaughan Road Collegiate, where he made lifelong friends when playing football. He apprenticed with Touche Ross to obtain his CA degree, then worked for Price Waterhouse. He was a comptroller for 3M, and spent time in London Ontario and then St. Paul, Minnesota. He returned to Canada with his family and joined Philips, based in Toronto. In his later years he was self-employed and loved being his own boss.

Don was a proud and loving father to his four children; David (Sandra).  Jennifer, Janine, and Todd (Tracie). He was blessed with his wonderful grandchildren – Heidi (Ashley), Anna (Dan), Zach (Krystle), Amy (Mike), Liam (Monica), Tuomas, Matti, Saara, Connor, Ally, Emiliano, Nash, Lila, and Dania. He will be fondly remembered by his nephews and nieces, his sister Betty Morrison, sister-in-law Eileen, and the many friends he made in Scarborough and Lindsay, where he retired. He is predeceased by his parents John and Pearl, brothers Doug (Marllyn) and Bob, his sister Shirley (Ernie), and his sisters-in-law Marion Pearson and Shirley Colbourn.

The family is very grateful for the kind and loving care that he received from his niece Laura, and the staff at Oakcrossing Long Term Care, London.

He was well loved, and had a life that was well lived.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Don’s life will be held at Mackey Celebrations, 35 Lindsay Street North, Lindsay, ON,  on Saturday, May 25th from 2 – 4:30 PM.

If donations are desired, please choose a charity of your choice.

My condolences to the Sindrey family. I have fond memories of Mr Sindrey as I was growing up as a classmate of Todd’s since elementary school. Many nights and weekends spent in their house on felicity with Mr Sindrey in his lazyboy recliner. Always had lots of laughs. Remember the good times.

I have such fond memories of Don barbecuing dinner for us in Lindsay when we used to get together for drinks, food and lots of laughs. He had a knack for making everyone feel welcome. I am sure he is already entertaining the other angels with his stories.
